GE has launched legal action against Vestas in the US over alleged turbine technology patent infringement, with a California lawsuit that demands damages and an injunction against further breaches that experts say could disrupt operations at major wind farms in the state.

GE lodged the complaint on Monday at the US District Court in California, claiming Denmark-based Vestas and local entity Vestas-American Wind Technology “wilfully and deliberately” infringed a patent held by the US industrial giant relating to zero voltage ride through (ZVRT) technology, designed to ensure the stability of turbines during grid disturbances.
