Indian independent power producer (IPP) Mytrah Energy hailed the prospect of regular national–level wind auctions as potentially “game-changing” for the market after signing its first power deal secured via an auction.

Mytrah’s 250MW was part of 1.05GW of power purchase agreements (PPAs) signed this weekend after India’s debut inter-state wind auction held in February.

The signings were accompanied by suggestions by power minister Piyush Goyal that India could seek bids for wind power as frequently as every month as part of its push towards 60GW of wind capacity by 2022, up from about 32GW in place in March this year.
