Ohio lawmakers were unable to agree to remove a restrictive zoning law for wind turbines that has killed off development in the state, in a setback for a market seen as promising by many big US wind developers.

Last week the wind industry cheered after the state Senate’s version of Ohio's budget included a provision to roll back a measure passed in 2014 imposing a 1,125-foot (342-metre) distance rule between installed turbines and adjacent properties – more than double the previous distance required, and said to be among the most draconian in the country.
