Vestas last week launched three new turbines in the 4MW class, upgrading its 3MW platform, which in the Danish manufacturer’s Power Optimised Mode are able to run with a rating of up to 4.2MW, in areas ranging from low-wind southern Germany to regions with high turbulence-intensity.

Recharge spoke to Jan Hagen, vice president for product strategy and product management, who explained which markets will be suitable for the larger machines, and why he believes 4MW is not the limit for onshore wind turbines.
