Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) has acquired a trio of offshore wind sites under development off Taiwan’s Changhua coast.

The three sites, advanced to this point by Fuhai Wind Farm Corporation in the Taiwan Strait, have a total capacity of up to 1.5GW.

Future development of the sites, currently in environmental permitting in advance of a final investment decision, will be undertaken by CIP in co-operation with partner Taiwan Generations Corporation.

As part of the acquisition of the projects, made via two separate infrastructure funds, CIP has entered into a memorandum of understanding with the Taiwanese shipyard China Shipbuilding Corporation for supply and installation services.

The government in Taiwan has set a target of 3GW of offshore wind to be switched-on by 2025, when nuclear power will be phased out of the country’s energy mix, but many analysts feel this is a conservative target, with expectations as much as 7GW could be turning by this date.
