The UK government could back 1GW of fresh onshore wind without breaking its own policy not to subsidise new projects, according to a report from consultancy Baringa Partners.

Industry body ScottishRenewables – which commissioned the study – seized upon the findings as “the first analysis of its kind that shows investment in the most competitive onshore wind projects can now be delivered in a way that is in line with the Conservative manifesto pledge to end new subsidies for the sector”.
