The cost of floating wind power could be cut further by developing new-generation mooring technologies, a joint industry project (JIP) backed by the Scottish government has found.

The nine-company JIP, run by the UK body the Carbon Trust, has wrapped up trials of new synthetic mooring lines that point to nylon-based spreads being “qualified for permanent application and confirmed [as having] cost-saving potential” of some 30% over chain, particularly in “shallower” water depths.
