Actis, the London-based private-equity firm, has formed new company Atlas Renewable Energy and committed $525m of capital, allowing Atlas to acquire a 1.5GW Latin American project pipeline from bankrupt SunEdison.

Atlas will be headquartered in Santiago, Chile, and focus largely on solar development in Chile, Brazil, Uruguay and Mexico. The new company – Actis’s fifth power generation “platform” in Latin America – will be led by chief executive Carlos Barrera, who was formerly vice president for Latin America at SunEdison.
