The independent power producer (IPP) model is “obsolete” given the major changes ripping across the US electricity sector, NRG Energy chief executive Mauricio Gutierrez said Tuesday.
“Changes in fuel mix, consumer preference, technological innovation and increased distributed generation have put pressure on the traditional IPP model, particularly as commodity markets continue to weaken,” Gutierrez told analysts in a conference call.
