While in general welcoming the energy package proposal made by the European Commission (EC) late last year, Germany has criticised parts of it ahead of a meeting of EU energy ministers today in Brussels that begins discussion of the plans.

Ministers today will talk about proposals on a new electricity market design, renewable energy and governance.

Rainer Baake, secretary of state in Germany’s economics and energy ministry, said the commission’s proposals on the future support of RE are “insufficient” and called for amendments to reach a greater convergence of support programmes in Europe in order to provide investment security.
