The US installed 8.2GW of wind capacity in 2016 – including 6.48GW in a strong fourth quarter – with new turbines overwhelmingly concentrated in states that voted for Donald Trump, according to latest data from the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA).

These included Texas (2.61GW), Oklahoma (1.46GW ), Iowa 707MW), Kansas (687MW) and North Dakota 603MW).

In the fourth quarter, Trump won 14 of 20 states with wind installations.
