Developers of a new economic modelling tool claim it marks a big step forward in showing the full benefits of offshore wind – and most crucially the jobs it creates – to help swing public and political support behind the sector.

The methodology combines a deep understanding of the offshore wind industry with “economic and business rigour” to offer a more accurate analysis of the economic upsides than is possible with standard modelling tools, said co-developers BVG Associates (BVGA) and the Economic Intelligence Unit at the University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI).
