Prospects for grid-connected onshore wind in India were further boosted with the release of bidding guidelines for a new 1GW programme designed to spur inter-state transmission.

In order to support renewable energy development in states and Union Territories without significant wind resources, distribution companies which intend to purchase 10MW or more can buy power under the grid-connected development scheme.

The guidelines from the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) set out how companies can bid to develop between 50 MW and 250 MW of capacity whose output will be initially acquired by PTC India under a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA).
