The Principle Power-built prototype, which flies a 2MW Vestas V80 turbine, was installed in 49 metres of water off Aguçadoura in October 2011 and has withstood extreme Atlantic Ocean weather, including waves more than 17 metres high and winds in excess of 60 knots.
