Onshore wind’s levelised cost of energy will plunge 41% and PV’s by 60% by 2040, according to the analyst group’s New Energy Outlook 2016, and the two will be cheapest options in many nations by the 2020s.

The two key renewable sources are set to “win the race on costs” against coal and gas, which will also enjoy low prices thanks to supply surpluses for both the fossil fuels.
