Among the renewables developers to go home winners were units of Ireland’s Mainstream Renewable Power, Spain’s Acciona, Italy’s Enel, and Germany’s WPD.
The average price of contracted power declined by 63% since the $129/MWH seen in Chile's 2013 auction. Another auction last October, focused exclusively on renewables, saw average winning bids of $76/MWh.
“When this government assumed power in 2014 we promised to reduce by 25% the price of power at auctions,” says energy minister Máximo Pacheco.
