In addition to helping the government and renewables industry shape a draft plan for the future deployment of utility-scale projects, the screening will also inform officials as to whether a full Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) in England and Wales will be required.
The Scottish government has already produced a preliminary SEA for marine energy in Scotland. Northern Ireland also recently appointed consultants to undertake an SEA for offshore wind and marine renewables.
