Being developed by Norway’s SmartMotor, the super-silent PMG’s patented design uses “concentrated” rather than “distributed” windings — the coils in the stator through which the electrical charge is driven — to deliver the cost-cutting promise of a 50%-lighter generator and greater efficiency from low- and medium-voltage megawatt-class turbines.
The design has found favour with European tidal-energy-device developers including Nautricity, Flumill and Atlantis
