Alstom will build four 250-megawatt (MW) variable-speed pump turbine and motor-generator units for a new pumped-storage hydro installation being built by Kraftwerke Linth-Limmern. The equipment will be delivered by 2015 and installed in the new Limmern facility being constructed in the Swiss canton of Glarus.
Pumped-storage hydro is being used increasingly as a means of load balancing electricity in countries with significant renewable-energy capacity.
