The American Wind Energy Association (AWEA) released the 2009 figures Tuesday, confirming a Recharge report last week that the US industry had broken the 9 gigawatt mark – far exceeding its own projections at the beginning of the year.

The industry was expecting as much as a 50% drop in installations from 2008’s record 8,425MW. Instead the figures represent year-over-year growth of 17.7%
