The incoming boss of Equinor has pledged to pursue a more aggressive path towards growth in green energy as he seeks to raise targets for renewables investment and accelerate carbon dioxide emission cuts at the Norwegian state-controlled giant.

Newly appointed chief executive Anders Opedal, who will take over from present incumbent Eldar Saetre later this year, also wants to “give greater visibility to the value” of the company’s New Energy Solutions renewables and low-carbon unit to investors, but stopped short of affirming whether it would be spun off into a separate entity.
