The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA) has called on the government to reverse the decision to approve the 2.2GW-worth of Renewable Energy Independent Power Procurement Projects (REIPPP), which it claims, “will lead to job losses”.

The move comes after South Africa’s Department of Energy signed the 27 deals, including the Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) with state utility Eskom, paving the way for 59bn rand ($5bn) in new direct investments in the energy sector.
