Power storage developer Highview has been awarded £1.5m ($2m) of funding by UK agency Innovate UK to develop a new hybrid configuration adding flywheels and supercapacitors to its existing liquid-air energy storage (LAES) system.
The new system will demonstrate LAES’s ability to respond to grid frequency events within one second, meeting the requirements of National Grid’s new enhanced frequency response (EFR) service.
