The UK may need to develop up to 46GW of new-build renewable technologies by 2030 in order to keep pace with 2050 net zero targets, according to analyst Cornwall Insight.

Cornwall predicts that out of 46GW the UK will likely need 25GW of offshore wind, 11GW of onshore wind, and 10GW of solar.

However, such a large-scale deployment of very low/zero marginal cost wind and solar technologies, as well as increasing interconnection in the 2020s, is likely to have a depressive impact on wholesale prices out to 2030.
