America’s largest renewable energy operator NextEra Energy is planning its first green hydrogen project as a “toe in the water” of the fast-emerging sector.

NextEra subsidiary Florida Power & Light (FPL) will propose a $65m solar-powered electrolyser project to enter service in 2023.

If approved by planners the plant would produce green H2 to replace some of the gas burned at the utility’s Okeechobee Clean Energy Center, said finance chief Rebecca Kujawa.
