Spain’s renewables sector hopes this week’s declaration of a ‘climate emergency’ by the country’s new coalition government – which pledged to introduce a draft bill on climate and energy within its first 100 days in office – will add further urgency to plans to restart auctions there.

Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez’s government committed to bringing forward a bill “to reduce greenhouse gas emissions with the objective of reaching climate neutrality by 2050”, as it ramped up the profile of energy and climate policy by becoming the latest nation to make the dramatic declaration.
