Renewable energy projects led by solar and wind account for most of the $13.6bn green bonds issued in the Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) region to date, a study said.

The first regional report from the Climate Bonds Initiative showed that 44% of the total green bonds issued in the region were related to energy projects, as countries and companies try to meet emission reduction goals. Land use and transport account for 20% of issues each.

Globally, 35% of green bond issues relate to renewable energy projects.
