The UK has a new energy secretary after Kwasi Kwarteng was promoted to the role, freeing-up former incumbent Alok Sharma to focus full-time on this year’s COP26 UN climate summit to be held in Scotland.

Kwarteng, formerly energy minister in the Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS), takes over leadership of the department as the UK gears up to meet its binding 2050 net-zero emissions target.
