The coronavirus pandemic has set off a cascade of negative market signals in Europe’s energy sector, heavily exposing merchant-market wind and solar power developments in certain EU countries as demand dropped by 10-20% and prices tumbled 30-40%, according to a new study from UK analysts Aurora Energy Research.

The report found that power utilities would be “significantly affected” by the fall in power prices with 2020-21 revenues expected to be 30-50% lower than previous forecast.
