German renewables developer Juwi has won almost half of the 437MW awarded at a Greek mixed solar and wind tender.
The company’s Greek unit Juwi Hellas last week won with a €57.30 per megawatt hour bid for its 204MW Kozani project in the southeastern European country. The projects represents 47% of the entire volume that was awarded.
“Thanks to a very well prepared and precisely executed strategy, we were not only able to bring our entire project volume through the auction process - we have managed to secure the highest tariff of all other solar projects," said Takis Sarris, managing director of Juwi Hellas.
Juwi competed with four other solar and one wind project in at the 30-minute online auction.
The awarded project is located in the north of Greece about 15 kilometers from the city of Kozani.
Juwi in Decemger plans to start construction of the solar array on an area of more than 400 hectares.
Grid-connection is scheduled by April 2021.
“After the collapse of the Greek market in 2013, we continued to believe in the potential of renewables in Greece as well as in other European countries and maintained our activities with a small team. That has now paid off," said Juwi’s EMEA regional director Dirk Retzlaff.
Then developer has been active in Greece for more than ten years and has connected more than 50 plants with over 100MW of power to the grid in the country.
