The Japanese grid could integrate a wind and solar share above 30% without endangering system stability, says a report from Japan’s Renewable Energy Institute (REI) and German consultancy Agora Energiewende.

The figure is higher than Japan’s 2030 renewable target previously set by the government. Earlier this year, Tokyo said it wants to hit 22-24% renewables in the country’s energy mix by 2030, a vision dubbed as “unambitious” by many in the industry.
