International governments’ Covid economic stimulus packages are deepening global inequality and failing to take the opportunity to speed up global energy transition strategies, with more $500bn being channelled in to carbon-intensive industries since the pandemic began, according to a new report from Christian Aid.

The global response to the impact of the coronavirus, said the development aid charity, has revealed a “domestic focus” bias and a “dangerous lack of policies that will help developing countries, potentially wiping out climate gains in the Global North”.
