European energy giants at COP25 call on governments to raise climate ambitions

Six of Europe’s largest energy company have written an open letter to European environment and climate ministers calling for the EU to raise its 2030 greenhouse-gas reduction target to “at least” 55% from the current 40% to accelerate the bloc’s transition to carbon-neutrality by mid-century.

The statement, published as international governments, companies and organisations begin two weeks of meetings at the UN Climate Change Conference, COP25, in Madrid, was signed by EDP, Enel, Iberdrola, SSE, Statkraft, Verbund, and Ørsted.
