French utility Engie has signed a 15-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Mexican steelmaker Gerdau that will see the under-construction 130MW PV project in Sonora, in the north of the Central American country, used to power the manufacturer’s industrial processes.
The new solar farm, set to be operational at the end of 2019, will take Engie’s renewables generating capacity in Mexico past the 1GW mark.
