A group of companies including EDF and trade unions have launched proposals to create a 'clean energy hub' featuring nuclear power projects that could also be linked to hydrogen production at Moorside in Cumbria, northwest England.

The Moorside Clean Energy Hub group said the plans centre around a new 3.2GW EPR nuclear power station – the same size and technology as is being used at the Hinkley Point C plant under construction in southwest England – alongside small modular reactors (SMRs) and advanced modular reactors.
