Spain's ambitions to retake its place as a European renewables powerhouse have come under close scrutiny in the days since being unveiled in Madrid, as industry and market observers pick through the details of a plan hatched under the shadow of a general election.

The country is planning to more than double its wind power capacity to 50GW by 2030, and to kick-start a sevenfold increase in solar to 37GW, according to its far-reaching National Energy and Climate Plan (NECP) now submitted to Brussels.
