The European parliament has voted to green-light a controversial list of priority energy projects, including 32 new gas infrastructure schemes, for EU funding, which critics claim flies in the face of the bloc’s wider clean-energy goals.

Lawmakers overwhelmingly voted down a motion proposed by the Greens — with 443 votes against, 169 in favour and 36 abstaining — to veto the European Commission’s so-called fourth Projects of Common Interest (PCI) list, which includes the new fossil fuel infrastructure.
