Australia’s new energy minister Angus Taylor was branded the “most anti-renewable, climate change-denying” politician ever to hold the role as he took the reins amid political upheaval in the country.

Taylor was named energy minister in the newly-formed government of Scott Morrison, who took over as Prime Minister after a leadership contest in the ruling Liberal Party ousted former leader Malcolm Turnbull.

Taylor’s appointment was condemned by renewables advocates and political opponents, who pointed to the new energy minister’s outspoken past criticisms of wind and other clean energy sources – including his role in a notorious ‘anti-wind power fraud rally’ held in 2013.
