South and Southeast Asia can meet their power needs through renewable energy at the same or lower cost than current coal-based plans, according to a new, UN-sponsored report.

“Utilisation of solar and wind could satisfy the needs of almost all of the countries in these regions many times over, and the average costs of utilising these renewable power sources in 2016 was already often in the same range as fossil fuels even if the external costs of these are not included,” says the Decarbonising South and South East Asia report from Climate Analytics.
