US President Donald Trump will nominate current deputy energy secretary Dan Brouillette as his pick to take the top job when current incumbent Rick Perry steps down later this year.

Trump said Brouillette has “unparalleled experience” in the energy industry as he announced his nomination on Twitter. “A total professional, I have no doubt that Dan will do a great job!” said Trump.

Brouillette has held various energy sector roles in government and is a former senior executive with automotive giant Ford, according to his biography on the Department of Energy website.

Perry’s intention to resign emerged last week, with media reports linking him to the controversy over claims the Trump administration tried to improperly influence the government of Ukraine.

Perry had been in the job for three years.
