Brazil contracted power from 125MW of renewable and 168MW of conventional projects to supply the country’s northernmost Amazon region state of Roraima, whose 600,000 inhabitants were left in the dark by blackouts in neighbouring Venezuela.

With prices as high as R$1,059/MWh ($279), the emergency 15-year PPAs were secured in a competitive tender that will ease power supply problems from 2021 after Venezuela descended into a political and economic crisis in recent years.
