Today, with more than 600GW of turbines turning worldwide and once-aspirational forecasts of 2,100GW of plant being wired into the grid by 2030 looking almost under-ambitious, wind’s place in the canon of mainstream energy sources is no longer questioned.
But wind is fast losing ground to PV, with annual global installations of black-top likely to overtake turbines inside five years, as ongoing cost cuts make solar the world’s leading energy source by 2050.
