Just weeks before he faces voters in a general election, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez unveiled a hugely ambitious climate and energy package that includes a 74% renewable power target for 2030 and phase-outs of coal and nuclear generation on the road to carbon-neutrality by mid-century.

Sanchez and his minority government’s minister for ecological transition, Teresa Ribera, set out a package that contains Spain’s first climate change law and the country’s draft National Energy and Climate Plan (NECP), which details how it plans to meet 2030 EU renewables targets.
