New solar installations in 2018 in Germany for the first time since 2013 have slightly exceeded a government-set target of 2.5GW, and a long, hot summer also boosted the country’s solar electricity yield by 18% from the previous year to reach a record 46 billion kilowatt hours.

With that, solar power last year met eight percent of Germany’s gross electricity consumption, the German solar industry federation (BSW) said.
