Georgia Power, the regulated utility owned by Southern Company, has launched a new renewables procurement round seeking 540MW that will once again test the ability of wind to compete against fast-growing solar in the southeastern US.

In 2016 Georgia Power achieved regulatory sign-off on its plan to procure 1.2GW of renewables and pass the cost along to its consumers, and through its first utility-scale tender last year it awarded 540MW of capacity to three solar developers: First Solar, Invenergy and NextEra Energy.
