Germany’s lower house of parliament, the Bundestag, has passed a legislative package that includes the tendering of 8GW in special onshore wind and solar capacity from 2019-21, but fails to live up to previous government commitments to additional offshore acreage.

The additional tenders – on top of regular auctions – aim to bring Europe’s largest economy closer to its 2020 climate protection targets and reach a target of 65% of renewables in Germany’s power mix by 2030.
