The European power sector can be fully decarbonised by 2045, with wind power supplying about 50% of the continent’s electricity, according to a landmark report released on Monday by Eurelectric, the association for the European electricity industry.

About 15% of electricity would come from solar, with only 4-6% supplied by fossil fuels (with carbon capture and storage or other CO2 offset technologies), and the remainder produced from nuclear and other renewables sources — hydro, geothermal, biomass and biogas — says the trade body’s Decarbonisation Pathways report.
