Multinationals around the world are fueling a “dramatic upsurge” in the move toward renewables-powered operations, with growth among the membership of the RE100 showing a better than 40% year-on-year increase in the amount of green electricity being sourced, according to new figures from the corporate energy transition body.

The latest report for the RE100, run by the Climate Group with global environmental impact assessment group CDP, highlighted that 37 of its 155 members – which include such household mega-brands as Google, Coca-Cola, BMW and Ikea – are now deriving 95% of their electricity consumption from renewables, helping shift energy demand away from fossil fuels in around 140 markets globally.
