UK battery storage planning applications have soared from just 2MW of installed capacity in 2012 to a cumulative total of 6.87GW this year, according to a new database launched today by industry body RenewableUK (RUK).

RUK says the massive increase in battery storage capacity set to take place in the UK is enough to power nearly half a million electric vehicles, adding that 92% of the applications for storage projects were approved first time.
