Hawaiian Electric to contract for more than 1GWh of storage

Hawaiian Electric, the main power utility in the US island state, is in final negotiations with developers for 260MW of new utility-scale solar and more than 1GWh of battery storage capacity, with Canada’s Innergex emerging as one of the winning bidders.

For context, that's as much battery storage capacity as the US installed cumulatively between 2013 and 2017, according to the Energy Storage Association.
